Transcript

The Edmonds Bakery was originally founded around 100 years ago in 1923, changing owners and names many times over the last century. Local man, F. E. Young, purchased the property in October 1923 and started Edmonds Electric Bakery.

A devastating fire broke out on April 11, 1928, at the Edmonds Club next door. Both the Club and the Bakery burned to the ground, and a number of nearby buildings were damaged, including the Beeson Building. A new concrete building was erected for the Bakery and Club, and has since been called Sticker’s Bake Shop, Friese’s Home Bakery, and the Bon Ton Bakery.

The current name is a nod toward the original: Edmonds Electric Bakery.

The local newspaper recorded an incident in 1953 – “a flashing light led Edmonds police to find three children, 7, 10 and 11 years of age, wandering around the halls of the Edmonds grade school. The youngsters were consuming the remnants of cookies and cupcakes, a trail of which led the officers unerringly to the back door of the Edmond’s bakery where the little marauders had helped themselves to their choice of pastry and ice cream.”

If you visit the Edmonds Bakery today, you’ll see a small shop displaying dozens of novelty cookie jars on the walls. We recommend their specialty – the chicken bone donut!
