Welcome aboard The Scary Skies! Please stow your bones—I mean bags—and fasten your seatbelts, especially if you're in row 26 with our disappearing door. As we prepare for a fretful flight, remember that extreme turbulence can strike at any time, alongside screaming children, arm-rest hogs, loud snorers, strong odors, cramped legs, long lines to our dirty restrooms, and the occasional ghost who loves to hit the back of your chair. In first class, enjoy our mystery meal, featuring a mystery meat, sauce, a vegetable, and a dinner roll sure to have rolled onto the floor—don’t worry, the five-second rule is always in effect! For your frustration, our flights are frequently cancelled or delayed, and your checked luggage may vanish. If you have a connection, well, good luck with that terror in the terminal On behalf of our senior crew, we look forward to scaring you! Boo! 👻 Read more

Madame Anna V. Bassett waters her rose garden as she overlooks Main Street. This was no ordinary Victorian-era woman. Born in Ohio and homeschooled by her father (a preacher), she graduated with honors from Oberlin College in 1887 and went on to see the world! She taught music in China and Japan for several years before returning to the states with her new husband (Reverend Franklin Bassett), living in Kansas, Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, Minnesota, and North Dakota before settling in Edmonds in 1904. She was a strong, civic-minded woman and very involved in our town's early development. She founded the Edmonds Floretum Flower Club and the Edmonds Music and Art Study Club. Madame Bassett was an active suffragist and was the first woman in Edmonds to register to vote. Her most lasting legacy lives on through the thousands of pianists that can trace their piano instruction (often through their piano instructor's instruction) back to Anna Bassett. The room with the turret behind her is the music studio where she taught countless children and adults from Edmonds how to play. If you listen carefully, some say they can still hear the haunting sound of her fingers tapping the keys around Halloween! Read more

Deep in the heart of Yost park, there is a great tree, and in the fathomless earth under this tree lies the corporeal remains of the Yost Park Phantom. When the twilight air grows cool, and the mists rise off the Salish Sea, the spirit of the Yost Park Phantom rises from the earthen depths and begins its slow saunter through the park, calling out for companions to join it under the great tree for an eternal slumber. So walk softly along the park at twilight, and if you hear a faint calling from the shadows of the park, know that the Yost Park Phantom is near... Read more

This year's scarecrow is called Amanita "Must-Scare-Ya" and the Funguys as a play on words with the poisonous mushroom Amanita Muscaria and our fungi friends. We are avid mushroom hunters in our family and love this time of year for tasty forest treats but beware the beautiful yet deadly amanita fly catcher. Our scarecrow was constructed with antique French lace, a fabricated mushroom cap, tons of tiny skull and mushroom details, straw hair and a little wink of style to one of my personal hero's, Dolly Parton. Our five year old daughter cut out all the paper dots and helped with the arrangement and construction. Scarecrow creating is now a family tradition! We also created a tiny forest in our shop window for Miss Amanita to spend her days scaring the crows away. Read more
