"Madame Anna V. Bassett" - ID# 7510
Madame Anna V. Bassett waters her rose garden as she overlooks Main Street. This was no ordinary Victorian-era woman. Born in Ohio and homeschooled by her father (a preacher), she graduated with honors from Oberlin College in 1887 and went on to see the world! She taught music in China and Japan for several years before returning to the states with her new husband (Reverend Franklin Bassett), living in Kansas, Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, Minnesota, and North Dakota before settling in Edmonds in 1904. She was a strong, civic-minded woman and very involved in our town's early development. She founded the Edmonds Floretum Flower Club and the Edmonds Music and Art Study Club. Madame Bassett was an active suffragist and was the first woman in Edmonds to register to vote. Her most lasting legacy lives on through the thousands of pianists that can trace their piano instruction (often through their piano instructor's instruction) back to Anna Bassett. The room with the turret behind her is the music studio where she taught countless children and adults from Edmonds how to play. If you listen carefully, some say they can still hear the haunting sound of her fingers tapping the keys around Halloween! Read more

"Amanita "Must-Scare-Ya" and the Funguys" - ID# 3827
This year's scarecrow is called Amanita "Must-Scare-Ya" and the Funguys as a play on words with the poisonous mushroom Amanita Muscaria and our fungi friends. We are avid mushroom hunters in our family and love this time of year for tasty forest treats but beware the beautiful yet deadly amanita fly catcher. Our scarecrow was constructed with antique French lace, a fabricated mushroom cap, tons of tiny skull and mushroom details, straw hair and a little wink of style to one of my personal hero's, Dolly Parton. Our five year old daughter cut out all the paper dots and helped with the arrangement and construction. Scarecrow creating is now a family tradition! We also created a tiny forest in our shop window for Miss Amanita to spend her days scaring the crows away. Read more

" “Jack & Sally’s Edmonds Adventure” This year, something spooktacular happened in Edmonds…" - ID# 13242
Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King himself, and his ragdoll sweetheart Sally wandered out of Halloween Town and stumbled right into the 13th Annual Edmonds Scarecrow Contest! Jack, ever the showman, wanted to bring some frightful fun to our seaside town. Sally, ever the voice of reason (and creativity), reminded him that Edmonds folk prefer charming chills over full-blown scares. Together, they stitched up a plan — part spooky, part sweet — to craft the perfect Edmonds-style scarecrow. Now they stand proudly on display, celebrating love that never dies and a town that knows how to do Halloween right. Jack may be made of bones, and Sally of stitches, but their hearts are sewn together — and this year, they’re stitched into the spirit of Edmonds! ❤️ Vote for Jack & Sally in the 13th Annual Edmonds Scarecrow Contest — where Halloween magic comes to life! Grandpa Leftcraft was a 4th generation farmer in the Skagit valley. His family immigrated to the area from Belgium and had their sights set on growing barley and wheat. The farm was started by his great-grandfather Upcraft, passed to his grandfather Downcraft then to his father Rightcraft. Grandpa Leftcraft decided to retire in 2020 and move to the Lovely Edmonds community with his dog Woody and pass the farm to his son Leftcraft Jr. where barley and wheat are still grown for the craft brewers that supply the taproom that is his namesake. This is where you'll find Grandpa Leftcraft relaxing and enjoying a cold beverage and a wonderfully prepared meal. Read more

La catrina comes from Aztec roots. We chose la catrina as our scarecrow because we felt it represents our Mexican heritage. La catrina is a way to honor and protect those who have passed. "Old Pumpkin Ben" - ID# 13250
When the leaves start turning and the air smells like pumpkin spice, Old Pumpkin Ben takes his seat on the bench looking across the street at the Edmonds Visitor’s Center. He’s not fancy, just a pair of faded jeans, a flannel coat and a sturdy pumpkin head. Locals say he’s the best listener in town, quiet as can be, always keeping watch over the comings and goings of 5th Street. Ben or as many call him Bennie doesn’t scare crows much anymore. Still, folks and dogs like to stop by and sit next to him, maybe take a picture or share a few quiet minutes enjoying the season. straight or crossed. He can even keep a hand in the air for a quick wave. He is ready for a selfie and a story. Read more
